A little about me:

Hi!  My name is Anne Schmid and this is my second year working as a reading specialist at the Salt Lake Arts Academy.  I have worked in special education since graduating with my undergrad (Linguistics/Psychology) from the University of Ottawa in Canada!  While I grew up in west Texas, I have enjoyed every place that I have ever lived and especially love living here in beautiful Salt Lake City, UT.   After graduation, I moved to California and worked as a behavioral interventionist at the Lovaas Institute, serving the needs of children with autism.  From there, I moved to Boston for two years to persue my master's in special education.  I completed my student teaching in a 2nd grade classroom and primarily worked with students needing extra reading support.  I loved it!

I have taught everything from preschool to reading support classes for elementary-aged students, and I have tutored middle & high school students with the University of Utah Reading Clinic.  I am constantly looking to learn and grow as an educator.  I was so happy to find my way to SLARTS.  The thing I appreciate so much about SLARTs is that children have many opportunities to learn and express themselves through the arts!

In my spare time, I am walking my dogs (an Australian shepherd and a heeler mix) in the mountains and adventuring with my family.  I live with my husband and our two kids, ages 10 & 12.  This summer, we got into geocaching!  I also enjoy reading, traveling (especially exploring our national parks), hiking, trail running, and puzzling.  I play tennis during the week and I LOVE board games!    There are really so many fun things and so little time!

Welcome to SLARTS!  Let's make it a great year!
