Please review with your student!
Cell phones, wireless headphones, smart watches, and other smart communication devices have become increasingly distracting in our classrooms, and are disruptive to learning and our student’s social / emotional growth.
Our faculty and staff are united in our commitment to make our school a phone-free zone during the school day, and now it is a Utah state law!
ALL cell phones and smart watches brought to school must be turned off and locked in a locker. Students may not have them on their person during the school day. This policy is school-wide. If a teacher or staff member sees a phone or a smart watch during the school day, it will be taken and placed in the principal’s office, and a parent will need to come into school to pick it up.
We recognize that many kids have phones and watches with them as a safety measure while traveling to and from school. We ask for your support, as our partners in education, to make sure those phones are turned off, locked up, and not turned on again until the end of the school day.
Parents, we need your help
If you need to get a message to your student during the school day, please call the office at 801-531-1173 – we can always deliver a message to your student in class.
If your student needs to contact you during the day, they may make a call in the office. If your family’s phone plan has the “school mode” option (where phones can be disabled for certain periods of time) we encourage you to ALSO use this tool. If a student has an IEP or 504 plan that specifically calls for the use of a cell phone, smart watch or headphones during school hours, those accommodations will be honored.
To reiterate
If students have cell phones or smart watches out during the school day, they will be taken by staff and faculty to the principal’s office where they will remain until a parent picks them up.
