Lights, Camera, Action! Join us in collaboration with RadGeekery filmmakers for our NEW After School Class
For the first time, award winning filmmaker Conrad Paur and RadGeekery are coming to the Salt Lake Arts Academy to make an Original Short Student Film on Tuesday afternoons. Eight sessions lasting 2 hours (3:15 - 5:15 pm) will run with an overlap between terms ONE and TWO.
Our students will learn every step of the filmmaking process using professional equipment to create a polished film to enter into a variety of festivals, as well as having a premiere event in January. Every filmmaker gets a custom t-shirt that corresponds to their role in the crew. We need another 10 student filmmakers to begin the production on time for our first meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 23 right before our school conferences.

GIRLS WHO CODE is back this year! Join us for the SLArts GWC Club now on Wednesday afternoons
Girls Who Code is on a mission to close the gender gap in tech. In 1995, 37% of computer scientists were women. Today, it’s only 24%. The percentage will continue to decline if we do nothing. We know that the biggest drop off of girls in computer science is between the ages of 13 and 17, so Girls Who Code was created to reach out and get girls into coding — and change the world! This club is offered by a non-profit with a policy to make sure the cost to families is zero.
This is a free after school club for girls and non-binary students! Learn more about Girls Who Code: https://girlswhocode.com/about-us
At the Salt Lake Arts Academy last spring we put the word out that we were looking for a new Volunteer Facilitator for our Girls Who Code Club. We are thrilled to announce we have found our new GWC Facilitator, Lala Nagata-Brown. (And if you think you recognize that last name, good catch!) Lala is the sister of our new 5th grade Math teacher, Mei Mei Nagata-Brown.
Lala is also a SLArts alum who is currently a computer science major in her third year at the University of Utah and will be offering GWC on Wednesdays from 3:15 - 4:45 pm. To enroll/register in our club, please contact Kathleen Smith via email, [email protected]
