Did you know that Salt Lake Arts Academy receives $500 less in public funding per student compared to other public schools in Salt Lake City?
Why?
Because SLArts is chartered through the state rather than the Salt Lake City School District (SLCSD), we do not receive local property tax revenue like District schools do. Charter schools receive a “local replacement funding” disbursement, but it is significantly lower than what SLCSD schools receive.
This difference is what we call “The $500 Gap.”
To offer the wide array of enriched, exciting programs our students enjoy, we raise a portion of our operating budget each year through local and federal grants and community/business fundraising.
What is the Annual Giving Campaign?
We fundraise twice a year. The first effort is our Annual Giving Campaign, which runs from November - January. We invite parents, guardians, grandparents, alumni parents, governing board members, local businesses, and friends to support our school.
Individual donations have ranged from $10 to $10,000.
Our goal is to raise $75,000 to help close “The $500 Gap.”
What Do Donations Support?
- Daily arts experiences for 416 students in Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts, and Digital Arts
- A portion of the salaries of five full-time licensed arts educators
- Scholarships for the 8th Grade Teton Science School trip
- Classroom technology and supplies for students and teachers
- School fees for families receiving fee waivers
How Do We Reach the $75,000 Goal?
Participation. The more SLArts families who give — at any amount — the stronger our momentum. In the past, 45% of families have participated.
This year, can we increase participation to 50%, 60%, or more?
