Dear SLArts Families,
From time to time, an issue arises that is important to share with our school community so that we can support students together.
As children grow and gain more independence online, many are exposed — sometimes accidentally — to inappropriate content on the internet, including pornography. Research and experience tell us that by middle school, this type of exposure is increasingly common.
We recognize that navigating conversations about pornography and online safety at home can feel uncomfortable or overwhelming, and that parents and guardians may not always know where to turn for guidance or resources. With the support of experts in education and child development, we have gathered resources designed to help families talk with their children about online safety, healthy boundaries, and what to do if they encounter inappropriate content.
Our intention in sharing this information below is to support and not to alarm. We see ourselves as partners with you in your child’s education and well-being.
Please reach out to us if you have questions, concerns, or would like help accessing resources. We are here to support you and your family.
With care and partnership,
Deborah Candler
Salt Lake Arts Academy Principal/CAO
