Meet Liz Behrens, New to the SLArts Social Work / Counseling Team

We welcome Liz Behrens, a new School Social Worker, who has joined the SLArts staff to work alongside Amy Mautz, School Social Worker/Counselor.

Liz is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who is passionate about supporting kids, families, and communities. She earned her undergraduate degree from Westminster University and her Master of Social Work (MSW) from Tulane University. Throughout her career, she has worked in school systems across Utah, Nevada, and Colorado, with a focus on education, mental health, and ensuring all students have equitable access to the support they need.

Liz began her career as a school social worker in a Denver-area school district, working within both special and general education systems. She later transitioned into a role as an MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) Specialist in a Utah school district, where she collaborated with school communities to develop strategies that support student success. More recently, she has worked as a mental health therapist for children in Nevada and Colorado, helping families navigate challenges and advocating for underserved communities.

She is deeply committed to promoting mental wellness through authenticity, empathy, and humor, and believes strongly in creating spaces where all children can grow and thrive.

Outside of work, Liz enjoys camping, reading, gardening, and traveling. She lives in Sugarhouse with her husband, their 2-year-old, and their Puerto Rican rescue pup, who keeps them on their toes with her lovable antics.
