Melissa Hollingshaus - Math 5/6

I can’t believe I’m starting my 5th year teaching math here at SLArts (2025)! I feel so fortunate to share this space with our amazing students, parents, and teachers. Inspired by David Letterman’s famous Top 10 lists, I’m excited to share 10 things you should know about me.

10. I love the beach. I grew up in San Diego and need to jump the waves and boogie board a couple of times a year.

9.  I love listening to live music!! I can’t wait to travel to Red Rocks to listen to Brandi Carlisle in the fall. Speaking of music…

8.  I am in awe of both Taylor Swift and Harry Styles. I love their music, the love that they share with the world, and their dedication to their craft. Yes, you will find pictures of them in my classroom..

7.  I believe strongly in growth mindset and the power of YET! Be patient with yourself.

6.  I love to travel and discover different cultures. My family and I went to Seoul, South Korea a couple of years ago and we are going to Japan in 2026! 

5.  My husband, Paul, and I just celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary. He is a beautiful supportive partner and I feel so grateful that we can experience life together.

4. I am a devoted mother to our children. I have a son, Brig (married to Ali), daughter, Walden (married to Rob), and daughter, Della (a junior at USU studying to be an occupational therapist)

3.  I love teaching at THIS school!! 

2.  I love building confident mathematicians.
