Lauren Carn, Drama
Hi! I'm Ms. Carn and I love teaching drama at SLArts!
About Me:
I earned my BFA in Theatre Teaching (K-12) from the University of Utah. I've taught theatre classes for every age but middle school is my favorite. I love everything about theatre: watching plays and musicals, writing scripts, directing and choreographing shows, performing, and designing props and costumes. In my classes, you will learn about many parts of theatre and get the chance to perform in or design for plays and musicals.
I have taught theatre at Studio Kids Music, Arts for Youth, and continue to teach in the summers at Youth Theatre @ the U. I've completed internships at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, working in the Theatre Education Department and with the American Alliance the Theatre and Education. I'm passionate about the mental health benefits that people of all ages receive from participating in the arts and spent 2 years in college completing various research projects on the subject. More of my theatrical work can be seen on my website (just like our digital portfolios!) laurencarn.com
I grew up in Draper, Utah and began performing during kindergarten. Since then, I've continued to perform in plays and musicals, write new scripts, and direct shows. I am a huge Shakespeare nerd and was very lucky to attend a study abroad in London and Stratford-Upon-Avon that focused on his works. When I am not doing something theatre related, I enjoy going on long walks, finding new taco places, and drinking a lot of Diet Coke. I love living in and exploring Salt Lake City and am always looking for new restaurant recommendations!
