Nancy Hoodes, Humanities
As a former student of SLArts, shoutout to the class of 2009, I am so excited to be back in the community where my love of learning first began. I graduated from the University of Utah with a BA in English Teaching and an ESL endorsement. After graduating, I taught at Cyprus High School before returning to SLArts. My teaching practice centers students and I prioritize giving kids agency in their learning. You will see lots of reading, writing, and creative projects in my classroom. Whether that be developing and illustrating a children's book after reading Indigenous Trickster Tales, or analyzing modern day music for historical allusions, I am always finding ways to give students an avenue to express themselves and make connections to their own world. I am dedicated to creating a classroom where students feel safe learning new things, and bringing who they are to our community.
Outside of being a teacher, I love creating functional pieces of art out of clay, reading new (and old) books, and spending time with my partner Nate and my kiddo Franklin. You might find us rowing down the Green River, camping in the Uintas, or biking to the public library. I am continually exploring and learning and am proud to be a teacher here at SLArts.
