The Utah State Board of Education’s Every Day Counts campaign highlights the importance of regular school attendance and works to reduce chronic absenteeism across Utah. Nearly 1 in 5 students statewide miss 10% or more of the school year—about 18 days—which adds up to nearly a month of lost learning. These absences, whether excused or unexcused, can affect academic progress, friendships, social skills, and a student’s chances of graduating on time.
Regular attendance helps students build strong relationships with teachers and peers, stay engaged in learning, and develop habits for lifelong success. The Every Day Counts campaign provides resources for families, educator training, and partnerships to address barriers like transportation and mental health challenges.
