Amy Mautz, LCSW, School Social Worker

I joined The Salt Lake Arts Academy staff as the School Social Worker/Counselor in 2019. My love for SLArts began much earlier, as a member of the parent community, when my oldest daughter began as a 5th grader in 2012; since then all 3 of my daughters have experienced their “middle years” at SLArts, my youngest being a current 8th grader.  I love the first day of school, musicals, outdoor dining on patios, spending time with friends/family and dogs!

My husband and I moved to SLC nearly 25 years ago, newly married and seeking adventure; I still consider myself a “New Englander” having grown up near the seacoast of New Hampshire and can often be heard cheering on my favorite Boston and New England sports teams - Go Sox! I completed my undergraduate degree with a BA in Psychology and Minor in Education at Lehigh University and received my Masters in Social Work with a clinical concentration at Boston College.  Prior to becoming a member of SLArts Staff, I worked 21 years for Murray School District as a School Social Worker at a K-6 elementary school.

As the Arts Academy Social Worker and member of The Student Service Team, I work collaboratively with families, administration and teachers to identify and support students whose mental health and/or under-developed emotional regulation skills may be impacting optimum academic and social growth.  My primary goal is to assist all members of our community to accept ourselves wholly, while bringing awareness to changes that will allow us to further develop and grow. I work with the population at large by supporting the integration of social-emotional learning opportunities, which is enhanced daily through student participation in the Arts. I participate in, organize and provide learning opportunities for our students, families and staff.

I have always loved school, even middle school, and feel lucky and proud to call SLArts my workplace.  As an individual who believes wholeheartedly in the importance of balance in life, I feel grateful that I am part of an educational program and team which provides adolescents, who are experiencing their greatest brain development since infancy, a space where they can: safely take risks, feel free to learn and grow in an inclusive, creative, inquiry based environment, learn to identify and regulate emotions and further develop an understanding for themselves, others, and the world around them.  Oh, and have some fun too!

I look forward to meeting and sharing The Arts Academy with you!
